Search Engine Optimization, Some useful tips & tutorials (part 4)
I) Put it Online.

Don't go with virtual hosting - go with a stand alone ip.
Make sure the site is "crawlable" by a spider. All pages should be linked to more than one other page on your site, and not more than 2 levels deep from root. Link the topic vertically as much as possible back to root. A menu that is present on every page should link to your sites main "topic index" pages (the doorways and logical navigation system down into real content).

Don't put it online before you have a quality site to put online. It's worse to put a "nothing" site online, than no site at all. You want it flushed out from the start.

Go for a listing in the ODP. If you have the budget, then submit to Looksmart and Yahoo. If you don't have the budget, then try for a freebie on Yahoo (don't hold your breath).

J) Submit

Submit the root to: Google, Fast, Altavista, WiseNut, (write Teoma), DirectHit, and Hotbot. Now comes the hard part - forget about submissions for the next six months. That's right - submit and forget.

Search Engine Optimization, Some useful tips & tutorials (part 3)

Search Engine Bible

lets skip the theory and get to what I know works from time proven methods on Google. I know the following system works 100% of the time with Google to attain rankings across a wide range of keywords. This is what I do with clients to build a successful site and has worked every time. The level of success will depend largely on the subject matter, it's potential audience, and it's level of competition on the net.

The following will build a successful site in 1 years time via Google alone. It can be done faster if you are a real go getter, or everyones favorite a self starter.

A) Prep work and begin building content.
Long before the domain name is settled on, start putting together notes to build at least a 100 page site. That's just for openers. That's 100 pages of real content, as opposed to link pages, resource pages, about/copyright/tos...etc eg: fluff pages.

Search Engine Optimization, Some useful tips & tutorials (part 2)
Selecting Your Keywords

By now, you should have an expanded list of search phrases to target, taken from either Overture or WordTracker. In addition, you should also have a good idea as to the competition for each of those keywords, whether you used the KEI or Google format. Now is the time to start selecting the search phrases that will form the foundation for a successful SEO campaign. Ok, deep breath, we’re almost there.

When selecting the keywords to target, there are many factors you must take into consideration. You will no doubt have your own unique considerations, but you must also take into account the following:

Is the search phrase relevant to your website and the page that you are optimizing?

Is there a page within your website that would be particularly suitable for targeting the selected search phrase?

How many other websites/web pages would you be competing against?

Do you offer competitive pricing for the product or service that relates to the keyword?

Will top search engine ranking for the search phrase generate enough revenue for your company?

Search Engine Optimization, Some useful tips & tutorials (part 1)
Search engine optimization or SEO, is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a website by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a website ranks in the results of a search, the more likely it is to be visited.

Search Engine Optimization helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.

Seo - What Gets You Listed In Google, check it out...
Lovely little test they've put together for us, surfacing many thoughts on what gets you to the top, one expected surprise is the meta keywords, so many people have been dismissing them that it makes sense to actually inlude them in the algo now but who knows. (you'll also see that yahoo uses the keywords meta, but don't much weight on them, just spend a little extra time adding them in seing as you should ahve keywords from your keyword research anyway)

Keyword Rich Pages

Article by Sumantra Roy

Once you have established the keywords for which you should optimize your site for the search engines, it is time to figure out how you can get a high ranking in the search engines for those keywords. The solution is to create Keyword Rich Pages (KRPs) - pages which provide good content and in which a particular keyword is repeated a number of times so that the page gets a top ranking for that keyword.

This article is focused on how you should create these KRPs. I am assuming you have a working knowledge of the different HTML tags like the Title tag, the Meta Description tag, the Meta Keywords tag, the Heading tags, the Alt Tag etc. If you don't, HTML for the World Wide Web is a good introduction to such HTML tags.

Now, let us assume that your company sells packaged tours to Australia, and that you are targeting the keyword "travel to australia". Here's how you create the KRPs:

7 Essential Web Site Maintenance Strategies
© Herman Drost

Maintenance of your web site is an absolute necessity if you want to keep it from becoming stagnant and losing
visitors. It can be compared to a garden that is not weeded, it soon disappears from site as a result of the
weeds blotting out the sunlight. Maintaining your web site means continuously updating it with fresh content, keeping
it free from errors (ie broken links, sloppy code) to maintaining a high position in the search engines.

Let's look at the 7 essential strategies for web site maintenance:

1. Check for broken links - broken links will annoy visitors making them click elsewhere off your site, thus
losing a potential customer. Businesses that once linked to your site, may have closed down, thus causing broken links to appear. Check for broken links on your site at least once a month.

Internet Marketing for Dummies!
By Keith Bryan

There are many people every day jumping into the online world. With more and more people using the internet the floodgates of internet users are opening wider everyday. But how, as a home business owner, can you expect to compete with the "big dogs" of the internet and dip your cup into the profďts as well?

There are a ton of tips and tricks that people will tell you are the "best" way to advertise your home business... But do them incorrectly or choose the wrong methods and all you'll really end up doing is increasing your frustration, not your traffic or your salës.

I remember back when I started my first business (not online) it seemed like almost everyday someone was willing to offer me a great deal to advertise my business. Of course with all these different resources out there some of them had to be more effective than others. The only problem was .... How Do I Tell Which Ones? I had limited resources and certainly couldn't afford to give them all a try, unless I just wanted to cross my fingers and hope they worked so I wouldn't go out of business!

7 Necessities To Do Well In Google
By Mark Daoust

Search engine optimization is one of the most popular topics in Internet Marketing. The reasons are obvious. Search engines provide highly targeted traffďc at a zero or very low cost. There are a lot of myths, debates, and disagreements over what is good Search Engine Optimization (SEO). We decided to look at 7 principles that you should definitely follow when optimizing your site for search engines.

Use Meta Tags

You will certainly hear a large number of people tell you that meta tags are not important and are useless. There is some truth to this, however, it is largely untrue.

Meta tags were first included in web pages primarily for search engines and directories and used as summaries of what a website was about. Because they were good summaries and a logical way to identify and classify a website, search engines used meta tags in their ranking algorithms. This method was worked well in the early days of search engines and the Internet.

Unfortunately, everyone figured out that by "optimizing" meta tags, they could better their rankings. This optimization quickly turned into sp@m. Search engine technology evolved and soon most search engines were removing meta tags from their ranking algorithms.
